Stefan Fletcher, President
Stefan Fletcher is the President of the Student Bar Association. He is a 3L at MSU College of Law. Stefan attended the University of Wisconsin-Superior as an undergraduate, finishing with a B.S. in Communicating Arts and Sociology. Stefan is involved in a wide range of other leadership and volunteer activities, including serving as the chair of the State Bar of Michigan Law Student Section and the President of the Council of Graduate Students (COGS), the student governance group for graduate & professional students at MSU. He was born in Watford, England.
Melissa Forshey, Vice President
Melissa Forshey, 3L, is the Vice President of the Student Bar Association. Melissa previously served as SBA’s Communications Director during the 2009 – 2010 academic year. Melissa also serves as the President of the Labor & Employment Law Association and the Administrative Editor of the Journal of Medicine & Law. Melissa graduated from Michigan State University in 2008 and received three bachelor’s degrees in Criminal Justice, Political Science, and Psychology. With five years experience in human capital management and after a clerkship with the National Labor Relations Board, Office of Appeals, Melissa plans to pursue a career in either labor or employment law after graduation.
Eric Griggs, Finance Director
Eric Griggs is the Finance Director of the Student Bar Association. In addition to serving on the SBA, he also competes on the law college’s Arbitration Team, which placed 2nd in the nation at the 2010 American Bar Association’s Arbitration Championship. Eric attended Eastern Michigan University and graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Business Management. While at EMU, he earned his varsity letter as a member of the men’s swimming team that won the 2005 Mid-American Conference Championship. Originally from Grand Blanc, MI, he is the youngest child of Thomas and Marjorie Griggs.
Heather Johnson, Community Affairs Director
Heather received her undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago in 1998, with concentrations in Law, Letters & Society and Psychology. After graduation she enjoyed living in London and completed a Masters degree in Psychoanalytic Developmental Psychology through the University College London, at the Anna Freud Centre in 1999.
Immediately after her graduate program Heather worked for the University of Chicago as the Director of College Programming organizing class events and College Programs from New Student Orientation to Senior Week.
Before heading to law school Heather spent several years working as a consultant for Engage Learning, Inc., an education and research consulting firm in Ann Arbor, MI. As the Vice President, she served as the chief financial and operations officer overseeing all client projects, research, development, grant writing, and occasionally served as a project consultant.
Heather is a member of the Michigan State University, College of Law, Class of 2012. She enjoys volunteer work and is interested in gaining experience in all areas of the law. Her particular academic interests are law and gender, civil rights, family law, criminal law, property law, litigation, copyright law and trademark law.
At Michigan State University, she serves as the Community Affairs Director for the Student Bar Association, Acting President of the Triangle Bar Association, serves as the State Bar of Michigan, Law Student Division, 1L Oral Advocacy Chair and is the LGBT Liaison to the Diversity Services Office.
Jess Haelewyn, Communications Director
Jess Haelewyn is the Communications Director for the Student Bar Association. She is also the Vice-Justice of Phi Alpha Delta and the Senior Advisor to the COGS President on Development. She is a 2L at Michigan State University College of Law and a proud alumni of Central Michigan University where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. She is originally from Rochester, Michigan.
